“THE JOURNEY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE DESTINATION.”

OFTEN IN THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE, THE FINISHED PRODUCT IS THE END GOAL, AND THE PROCESS OF BUILDING IS MORE AN INCONVENIENT NECESSITY TO BE ENDURED.

IN THE CASE OF THE MOUNTAIN HOUSE, THE BUILT HOUSE REPRESENTS THE PLANNING AND DESIGN OF AN ENTIRE DELIVERY SYSTEM. THE FINISH PRODUCT REPRESENTS THE UNION OF ARCHITECTURE, STRUCTURE, TRANSPORTATION, AND A UNIQUE CONSTRUCTION METHOD. WITH THIS HOUSE, THE WHOLE IS SURPRISINGLY MORE THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS, HIGHLIGHTING THE HIGH DEGREE OF THOUGHTFULNESS THAT STANDS BEHIND THIS INSPIRATION. HENCE, PICTURES OF THE BUILDING PROCESS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS EXPOSE’.

THE DESIGN IS BASED ON A CONSTRUCTION MODULE, THAT OF 16-INCHES X 16-INCHES, TO BEST WORK WITH STANDARD WOOD FRAMING PRODUCTS. A SERIES OF 11-MODULES, OR “CUBES”, WERE DESIGNED TO FIT WITHIN THE SHIPPING LIMITS ON STATE ROADS WITHOUT PERMITTING. THE MODULES WERE BUILT IN ALBUQUERQUE AND TRUCKED 160-MILES NORTH ON A TWO-LANE HIGHWAY, WHERE THEY WERE CRANED INTO PLACE. THE MODULES ARE DESIGNED TO FIT TOGETHER USING A COMMON STRUCTURAL SYSTEM AND TYPICAL DETAILING. THE MODULES WERE SEMI-FINISHED IN ALBUQUERQUE, AND ONCE ON-SITE, FITTED TOGETHER AND FINISHED, NAMELY, THE FINISH PLUMBING AND HEATING, INTERIOR DRYWALL AND PAINTING.

THIS TWO-STORY, TWO BEDROOM HOUSE SLEEPS UP TO 16-GUESTS, AND IS SITED TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE NATURAL WORLD OUTSIDE ITS DOOR STEP.

PLEASE READ ABOUT OUR GUEST EXPERIENCES:

“Kachina Ridge Dreams is truly one of the most spectacular places to stay in Taos Ski Valley! The modern design with large windows in the master bedroom and surrounding the sunroom made this a total emersion into nature. Thank you for sharing this special place.”

“This vacation home should be anointed the 8th Wonder of the World! This home was built from container boxes and rest at the base of Kachina Peak for a 5 minute trek to the ski lift! We enjoyed being immersed and surrounded by beautiful tall pine trees and snow capped mountains!

The hosts thoughtfully designed the exquisite interior spaces with modern furniture embraced with Native American colors of the Southwest. The couture fabrics, state-of-the-art amenities (even what you thought you didn`t need), and panoramic views of the natural world from the Livingroom/sunroom and master bedroom areas created a desire to nest and enjoy a private luxury 5- star hotel experience.

If you are looking for a vacation home that offers privacy and connects you to the natural world in its purest form without sacrificing the luxury of modern conveniences, then this is the place for you! The experience of this home will forever remain a hallmark in our memories!”
